optical phase plate motor holder
thingiverse
Sometimes you need precise control over a beam's optical phase, but lack access to a piezo stack or driver; this DIY solution offers a straightforward way forward. Remove a linear motor from a CD drive and attach a microscope slide coverslip to the motor. By applying small currents (0-100mA) at low voltage levels (0-2V), you can reliably rotate the coverslip slightly, altering the optical phase of light passing through it, as illustrated in this image showing its calibration within an interferometer. Place the motor-coverslip assembly into a protective base for easy mounting and safekeeping.
