Optical Mounts
thingiverse
Create an optical mount system using 3D printing and extruded aluminum right angle trim from the local store. Suitable for 3/4"x3/4"x1/16", this system was used in a schlieren photography rig showcased in a YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGskL2wdQ54). Another video discussing the schlieren camera's functionality for a local hackerspace is also available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgCn6SYeVT0). The camera comprises a 150 mm diameter, 1500 mm focal length spherical mirror from Anchor Optics, a pinhole made by the beer can method, and an LED light source with a glass lens sanded flat. Position the pinhole and LED at twice the focal length of the mirror (3000 mm or about 10 feet) and place the object being photographed directly in front of the mirror. While the design could be improved with better fit for angle holes, stronger optical posts, and set screws, it serves as a good starting point for your optical mount system project.
