I built an optical bench to test lenses and mirrors with adjustable height on each component. Testing a few lenses required a setup that buying a commercial bench would have made too expensive, so I decided to build my own. I had spare 8mm rods and LM8UU bearings from a previous 3D printer project, which I used in the design. You could likely use any type of plastic bearing for this purpose as well. The project has served its initial purpose, but it's not yet fully developed; let me know if you're interested and I may continue working on it further.
