Archaeologists excavated an opossum femur at the Oak Hill plantation site (44PY440), a former quarter for enslaved servants. On November 15, 2015, they discovered it in Room 1, Test Unit 1, Layer B, Feature 2's north half. The NextEngine Desktop 3-D scanner was used to create a 3D scan of the fossil. Dr. Elizabeth Moore identified it. The Virginia Museum of Natural History provided this discovery.
