Students in the 5th grade pinpointed a classroom issue: their library was a mess, with no way to track which book belonged to whom. They devised a solution using an iPad app that served as a checkout tool, enabling them to see what books were checked out and provide recommendations. As they organized the books by title, they needed a clear indication of where different sections started on the shelves. They measured and created 3D components to attach to the edge of the shelves, signaling the beginning of each section. The parts were printed in black PLA, with white 3D letters glued to their exterior faces. This project was part of Matthew Wigdahl's Genius program, where students chose their own projects rooted in Design Thinking principles for identifying needs and addressing them.
