During the COVID-19 pandemic it became clear that a shortage of medical equipment can have a severe impact. Often, simple equipment and designs can be helpful as long as professional equipment is not available. This repository contains general information about an open-source ventilator device. The main purpose of this project is to build a ventilator when no professional or medical equipment is available. Easy-to-assemble components are used with a clear focus on simplicity, availability, and scalability. This project started as part of the #WirvsVirus Hackathon of the German government and has been intensively worked on since, including exchange with medical experts. The work is also a selected project in the give-a-breath-challenge and The Global Hack. This is a further extension or variant based on our evolved design A1. Further extensions and upgrades will be posted here as well. The general concept is a design proposal for a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) ventilator. A standard brushless motor drives a rotary pump to supply intake air pressure. Intake air is filtered before entering the pump. The pump housing also has an inlet for pressurized O2. Behind the pump, the air flows through sensor modules. This design is currently undergoing testing and further development.
