OpenTerrain Basic (Customizer)
thingiverse
UPDATE: New features added! Now includes a Plastic Saver option for taller terrains, where 1 enables the feature and 0 disables it. Also, you can now input max and min values for random grid heights on uneven and rough terrain. All options for OpenTerrain can be used simultaneously, so you could have a double incline any-size grid with rough random terrain that saves plastic and has a customized magnet size! I love the concept of OpenForge. Modular, customized, 3D printed scenery for RPGs is a great idea. devonjones did an amazing job on OpenForge 2.0, which looks incredible with magnetic attachments and multiple stories, but unfortunately, it's only in stone. Even in OpenForge 1, there wasn't anything for outside terrain. It was optimized for small grids and hallways, but my Dungeons and Dragons group does almost every quest entirely outdoors, so castle floors aren't very helpful to me. That's why I created OpenTerrain! It's based heavily on and designed to be compatible with OpenForge 2.0. With this customizer, you can make parts that are 40x40 grid if you desire (and if you have a printer that size). Print the base and the terrain, glue them together, and you're good to go! Here is the link to OpenForge 2.0 (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1276680), which shows how everything works! You can use 5mm ball magnets in the bases to attach the grids magnetically, or simply put the grids next to each other without bases and create epic gaming layouts! As an added bonus, you can make sloped terrain pieces by changing the 'incline' settings. You can also input the size (diameter) in mm of the spherical magnets. If you want to use these with OpenForge, here are the settings NOT to change: gridsize, gridheight, height, base_height. This could also be used for games like Heroclix if you increase gridsize! Remixes are welcome! If you have any ideas, questions or problems, let me know in the comments! Post-Printing I'm planning on printing a series of 5x5 grids, then spraying with a spray-on-adhesive, then pouring sand on it. After I shake off the excess sand, I will use it for an epic desert setting for my Pre-release Playtest of Shattered RPG (steampunk awesomeness, check out https://shattered-rpg.com/ if you're curious).
