OpenSCAD Parametric Dodecahedron Generator
thingiverse
This OpenSCAD script crafts toruses and positions them at the vertices of a dodecahedron, then orients them so they align with the normals of those vertices. By doing this, a dodecahedron composed of toruses can be created. The parameters for the toruses can be adjusted to change their shape from triangles to squares, pentagons, hexagons, and more. Additionally, the thickness and diameter of the toruses are adjustable. This script also removes a cylinder from the base of the dodecahedron, making it printable on a 3D printer. The toruses can be replaced with any other object by simply modifying the code. My inspiration for this project came from the spherical chainlink knot found at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2593855. After printing this model, I wondered if it could be made without the links being locked together, leading me to create this program as the first step in mathematically reproducing the chainlink sphere in a parametric and editable format.
