OpenSCAD Library: Parametric joint generator

thingiverse

A vital expansion to the OpenSCAD library has been developed, enabling users to effortlessly design robust right angle T-joints that significantly outperform basic rectangular connections. The added stability against leg breakage is not solely attributed to increased material usage; rather, it exemplifies a fundamental principle observed in various everyday applications, such as tears in fabric. A simple stick-on joint corresponds to the tear's starting point - if left unaddressed, the tear can rapidly spread along and deeper into the fabric. To prevent further damage, cutting a circular opening at the tear's crest effectively distributes tearing forces evenly around the hole, preventing concentration on the weak spot. The semispherical connection points of these joints perform a similar function, dispersing force distribution and thereby enhancing the robustness of legs attached with them. This module is designed to be integrated into the OpenSCAD library for quick and easy joint generation. Additional features supporting Thingiverse's customizer are included solely for demonstration purposes and should be removed prior to library integration.
