OpenSCAD Glasses

thingiverse

This is a pair of glasses designed and crafted by one of our students in OpenSCAD for her Science/Engineering Fair project, showcasing months of revisions, until these iterations prove the best. Each piece is expertly printed separately, and the arms are securely attached to the face with screws. She is committed to refining and further revising the SCAD files, striving for perfection. Her abstract: A researcher successfully created a parametric program for eyeglasses frames that can be 3D printed. The user simply needs to type in some basic measurements, and a frame will be ready to print. There is a custom program for the left arm and another for the right arm of the eyeglasses. Additionally, there is a program for the rims around the lenses connected by the bridge, each equipped with hinges so once printed, the pieces can connect seamlessly with two eyeglass screws. Once the eyeglasses are printed, the lenses can be easily inserted into the rims. This invention benefits society because many charitable organizations like New Eyes, Lions Club, and Eyes of Hope take eyeglass donations. This program will empower people to donate just eyeglass lenses and then create frames to fit them, making it a valuable resource for those in need. Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator 2X Rafts: Yes Notes: It is strongly advised that the glasses be printed with as high density as possible.
