OpenSCAD Glasses

This is a pair of glasses created by one of our students in OpenSCAD for her Science/Engineering Fair project. After many revisions, these seem to work the best. Each piece is printed separately, and the arms are attached to the face with screws. She continues to tweak and further revise the SCAD files daily. Her abstract: The researcher successfully created a parametric program for eyeglasses frames that can be 3D printed by anyone with basic knowledge of measurements. The user simply types in some simple details and a frame is ready to print instantly. There are separate programs for the left arm and right arm of the eyeglasses, as well as one for the rims around the lenses connected by the bridge. In each program, hinges are made so once they're printed, the pieces can connect with two eyeglass screws easily. Once the eyeglasses are printed, the lenses can be popped into the rims quickly. This project is helpful to society because there are many charities such as New Eyes, Lions Club, and Eyes of Hope that take eyeglass donations. This program will enable people to donate just eyeglass lenses and then make frames to fit them perfectly.
