OpenSCAD Chess Simple Printing
thingiverse
I redesigned the OpenSCAD Chess to make it easier to print upright without supports. This remix eliminated the need to glue together two halves or cut out supports, making the process much simpler. I used wood PLA filament from Hatchbox and stained each piece to bring out their full potential. To add stability, I glued a washer and green felt to the bottom of each piece. I modified the dxf files using LibreCAD to reduce overhanging parts, then regenerated the STL files in OpenSCAD. Next, I added a chin support to the knight using TinkerCAD. Finally, I increased the thickness of the king's crown in OpenSCAD to prevent breakage. The rook remained unchanged, but it was included for completeness. The before and after pictures show the modified parts highlighted.
