I think that original design for OpenRC Truggy steering pin is not intended for a 3mm ball after all, it seems like a struggle to mount to a 3mm ball; possibly, a 2.5mm ball would be better suited. But I have to admit, the original design does offer an easy mounting solution and incorporates a built-in locker.
