I wanted to upgrade my printed gears because they kept stripping out, so I decided to swap them out for steel ones. There's a set on Amazon that closely matches the dimensions used in the original design: "Hot Racing STE258 Steel Pinion and Spur Gear Set (18T/58T 32P)(Blue) - Traxxas". Link: http://a.co/9eu8Ire Best $26 I've spent on this project so far. The new axle is also perfectly balanced, which means the rear end doesn't vibrate as aggressively at high speeds. It works with stock wheels and bearings. The tolerance on the axle and the gear attachment part is very tight - you'll have to sand or file them to get a good fit. The gear attachment piece fits inside the gear and is secured with 3 M3 bolts. The slightly curved side faces towards the gear. I added an axle for the 2017 updates, although I haven't personally tested it yet!
