OpenRailway EMD SW1500 1:32 Locomotive

The EMD SW 1500 is a diesel switcher locomotive produced by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division in the United States during the sixties and seventies. Approximately eight hundred were manufactured, with several still operating in the country today. This 1:32 scale version of the EMD SW 1500 locomotive is part of "The OpenRailway Project," a free and open-source initiative to create more model trains available worldwide. Having completed numerous three-dimensional printing projects previously, I required something with greater attention to detail. Given that my dad and I had already built a garden railway in the same scale, it seemed like an excellent idea to focus on creating a train. I visited a model train store in Stockholm to discuss suitable locomotive options and, after two or three cups of coffee, decided on the EMD SW 1500. Design work began by gathering specifications, drawings, and photographs. Although I struggled to find detailed drawings, I managed to locate a few, which I used as references along with various photos. Some details may be inaccurate due to this approach. The entire locomotive is three-dimensionally printed except for the handrail, which is crafted from 1.5mm aluminum welding rod. While there are some aspects that require attention, it is possible to print and assemble every component to create a fully functional 1:32 scale SW 1500 model train.
