The EMD SW 1500 is a diesel switcher locomotive built by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division during the sixties and seventies. Around eight hundred were manufactured, and several are still in service across the United States. This 1:32 scale version of the EMD SW 1500 locomotive is part of "The OpenRailway Project," a free initiative to bring more open-source model trains worldwide. Having completed various 3D printing projects before, I wanted something with more detailed attention this time around. Since my dad and I had already built a garden railway (1:32 scale), it seemed like a great idea to create a train. After visiting a model train store in Stockholm and discussing the project over two or three cups of coffee, I decided on the EMD SW1500. Design work began by researching specifications, drawings, and pictures. Although I didn't have much luck finding the exact drawings I was looking for (I did find a few), I had to rely heavily on photographs, which may result in some minor inaccuracies. Everything is 3D-printed except for the handrail, made from 1.5mm aluminum welding rod. Some details need attention, but you can print and assemble everything if you want your very own 1:32 SW1500. https://youtu.be/KFmzq_iMGYg
