OpenLock Magnetic Connection System V3
thingiverse
This is an innovative magnetic connection system designed for OpenLock terrain. It's completely glue-free, polarity-independent and enables the creation of sturdy structures that are quick to assemble and disassemble. As they require no glue, the magnets can be easily reused for various projects. The clips are designed to fit three side-by-side. Version 3 of the clips has been updated for easier printing and improved flexibility. They are specifically designed and tested to be printed on an FDM printer using a 0.4mm nozzle and 0.2mm layer height. There is limited tolerance between the clips and the tiles, so make sure you cleanly remove the built-in supports from the OpenLock tiles. Designed for 3mm barrel magnets, the clip is trimmed at a 45-degree angle to allow four clips to fit into L-shaped column pieces by Printable Scenery. Upper Middle: Standard flexible clip. By request, the flexible design of the magnetic clip has been applied to a standard clip, making it compatible with three side-by-side connections. Upper Right: Wall support clip. Designed to fit into the middle hole on wall tiles, these clips provide additional support for the connection between the wall and floor tiles. Bottom Left: Ball magnet clip. By request, a version of the magnetic clip designed for ball magnets has been added. However, it's essential to note that this design has not been thoroughly tested as I primarily use barrel magnets. If you have any suggestions to improve them, please let me know. Bottom Middle: Open-side magnetic clip. Designed for 3mm barrel magnets, the opening on the side allows the magnets to poke out slightly and increase the connection strength. Bottom Right: Closed-side magnetic clip. Designed for 3mm barrel magnets, this closed-side design is easier to print and can be painted to help it blend in with the tile. However, the connection strength is weaker compared to the open-side clip. Not shown: Floor support piece. A piece that slots between floor tiles for added rigidity if required. V2.3 Update 8/16/2019: I added alternate clip types for increased strength and compatibility with ball magnets. V2.2 Update 8/8/2019: The wall clip and double connector have been added to help make large structures more solid. V2.1 Update 7/10/2019: The file has been updated slightly to ensure the magnet can spin freely by making the center circle a bit bigger.
