OpenForge Miniature Bases: Cobble (Oval)
myminifactory
I've decided to try a bold experiment. I realized that many of the textures used for my floors would make fantastic bases for miniatures, just waiting to be unleashed. I've decided to create this set to gauge interest in having textured bases with immense character. In the past, I've relied on the excellent products from Micro Art Studio, which offer a vast array of beautiful bases, each boasting numerous variations at the same size, while also providing the same base styles in many different sizes. This approach helps create a warband or set of minis for RPG that exudes a sense of variety while still tying them together thematically. I've scoured thingiverse, and what I found is that there are indeed great bases available, but they often lack one crucial element: consistency. Most have few or no variants at the same size, or few or no size variations. With this broader set, I've created over 200 variants across three different sizes. I've covered every game I'm familiar with, including D&D, Warhammer 40k, Age of Sigmar, Pathfinder, Malifaux, Infinity, Guildball, and Warmachine/Hordes. If there's a base variant under 100mm used by a game that's not represented in these sets, please let me know so I can add it to the collection and incorporate it into all future miniature base releases. When printing, you want to make the base look its absolute best for the miniature you've invested so much time and effort into. For this reason, on any FDM printer (one that uses plastic filament), I highly recommend printing the upright versions of the bases, as the detail on the z axis is significantly greater than the detail on the x/y axes. If you're using a resin printer, you can print the horizontal versions and achieve an equally impressive result. When printing the upright bases, you'll need to glue them together and possibly perform some minor putty work to address the seam. For step-by-step instructions on getting started with OpenForge, I recommend checking out our comprehensive tutorials. As for OpenForge itself, it's now a patron-supported project. The resources my patrons provide enable me to create more sophisticated tiles with an even greater level of detail. Your support will help deliver an ongoing stream of awesome gaming terrain.
