OpenForge 2.0 Mangonel (Catapult)
myminifactory
This is a special release, marking a milestone for me as well as the Oakenspire Kickstarter. Evan Carothers reached out to me some time ago, proposing that I create community models for his project. With the stretch goal now unlocked, my first model is ready: The Mangonel. This model draws inspiration from an authentic medieval recreation of this ancient siege engine. However, it's essential to correct a common misconception about mangonels and similar catapults. They are not primarily used for battering down castle walls as many people assume. In reality, their force was limited by design, making them more effective against personnel rather than fortifications, as Shadiversity explains in this video. I've created two versions of the Mangonel model. The first is fully articulated but consists of 12 pieces and may be a bit challenging to assemble. The second version, generously provided by ecaroth, features a fixed arm configuration, requiring only three pieces for assembly. This simplified design also includes stones contributed by ecaroth. For those new to OpenForge, I recommend starting with our tutorials on how to get started. As OpenForge transitions into a patron-supported project, my patrons provide the resources needed to create increasingly sophisticated tiles with greater detail. Your support will ensure an uninterrupted flow of gaming terrain.
