OpenForge 2.0 Encounter: Shrine of Beelzebub
thingiverse
This is the second shrine in a series of alignment-based shrines. Beelzebub, representing Lawful Evil, is a formidable archdevil to pin down. He's known as the lord of flies in some places, while in Pathfinder he rules the seventh layer of Hell, Cocytus, a cold and unforgiving realm. In 5e, Beelzebub is known as Baalzebul and serves as the lord of Maladomini, the seventh layer of the Nine Hells, making him one of the most powerful archdevils. Formerly a celestial archon named Triel, he bore titles such as Fallen One, Lord of the Flies, Lord of Lies, and Slug Archduke. The latter refers to his cursed form after the Reckoning of Hell; Asmodeus has transformed his natural form into that of a filth-covered giant slug with tiny arms. Historically, Beelzebub's name is derived from a Philistine god once worshiped in Ekron and later adopted by some Abrahamic religions as a major demon. The name Beelzebub is also associated with the Canaanite god Baal. In Christian theology, Beelzebub is sometimes considered another name for the Devil, similar to Satan. He's known in demonology as one of the seven princes of Hell and described by the Dictionnaire Infernal as a being capable of flight, known as the Lord of Flyers or Lord of Flies. For this shrine, his form has been designed by Duncan Shadow Louca, who collaborated with me on this project. If you haven't seen his work before, I encourage you to check it out and consider supporting him on Patreon. The Beelzebub symbol and slime archway were created by me, while the fire pit was sourced from the Fire Shrine.
