OpenForge 2.0 Dry Cave Release 1: Limestone Basics

thingiverse

Last month, I unveiled the Cave Entrance on Thingiverse. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and I've been working tirelessly to bring you a series of caves that will complement it perfectly. Rather than releasing a traditional set of walls, floors, and corners separately, I'm introducing a variety of pieces in batches, but with a twist - each release will feature a mix of new and existing elements. I've made significant progress on the dry cave textures, offering two distinct looks: one for a soft rock that erodes smoothly and another for a harder conglomerate with lots of jumbled bits. This latest release includes walls and corners in the soft rock texture, while floors fit seamlessly into the conglomerate design. In my next release, I'll likely reverse this approach. One major concern I had was that the caves still felt too structured due to the 90-degree angles between walls and floors. To address this, I came up with the concept of outcrop tiles - you can see one pictured above. By incorporating these organic elements, which protrude or recede from the room, I believe it will create a more natural ambiance. Expect to see many more of these outcrop tiles in future releases. To maximize variety and realism, I strongly recommend printing each piece along with its mirror image. This will help you achieve a more dynamic and immersive environment.
