OpenBuilds® OPEN RAIL™ Open Source Linear Bearing System

thingiverse

OpenRail™, an open-source linear rail system by Mark and Trish Carew of OpenBuilds.com, is designed for compatibility with various T-slot aluminum extrusions. Made from 6061-T5 aluminum with a Black Hard Coat Anodized, Type III finish, it allows for the use of both metal V wheels for heavy-duty applications and plastic V wheels for quieter, light-duty ones. OpenRail's unique adaptability to multiple aluminum extrusion configurations makes it the most versatile linear rail system available today. The OpenRail system is easy to install using included screws and t-nuts, making it customizable to each machine. It can span T-slot with pre-drilled holes for easy mounting. The hard coat anodizing provides a harder surface than tool steel. Videos and more information on OpenRail can be found at its Kickstarter page. OpenRail's designs will be open to anyone who wants to create with it, promoting sharing in the open-source community. Small maker businesses are free to sell these extrusions to further seed this system among others. The latest version of OpenRail (V7) is available for download and includes various formats such as STEP/IGES/SolidWorks/SketchUp. Compatibility with different T-slot aluminum extrusion profiles, including 8020, Bosch, Misumi, OpenBeam, and MakerBeam, is also supported. Check the SketchUp for sizing with the profiles you want to use. Remember to dream it, build it, and share it with OpenBuilds!
