Openable Detailed Dalek
thingiverse
This is a revision of my earlier detailed Dalek model, which itself was based on Audrey2's exceptional Accurate Dalek model. In this version four body panels are situated on articulated arms enabling the model to be closed up like a standard Dalek or opened to showcase the interior and Kaled mutant inside it. I aimed to create the interior and mutant as accurate to the show and props as feasible considering the limitations of the printer's capabilities and the need for movable parts and functioning joints. This is a slightly more complicated model to print than the original was. There are numerous additional moving components that must be snapped together, and the mutant itself is a challenging piece to print. It was created in Solidworks, with Meshmixer used for sculpting details on the mutant and generating custom supports. Instructions Print out the following parts in black: 1x bumper 2x armball 1x core 1x grill-right 1x grill-left 1x eye 1x shoulderarm-left 1x shoulderarm-right Print out the following parts in brown (or whatever base color you desire): Some components may necessitate support, depending on your printer. Others will need assistance even at low heights. 1x skirt Now it is time to start assembly. The ball joint must be pressed firmly into place before assembling any of the arms. It's advisable to use a lot of pressure because the pieces fit snugly. Each arm should now be pressed onto the sockets on the core with the socket plug going into the ball end. It shouldn't take much effort; once they click in place, they're set. Next you will want to press each arm firmly back onto their respective shoulders so that the shoulder pieces are connected. You can now start working on installing the mutant arms. Be sure that when installing any additional parts they aren't overlapping and cause some type of issue when closing it up. You must next push each arm into the core using force if necessary. As before, once installed the piece should snap into place, and with enough pressure it won't pop off. Now the final components can be added, but remember not to apply any unnecessary stress which might break some of the details you will see here on this figure when moving your model's limbs or parts that connect to other objects. You are finished.
