Open WarHex - Testbed
thingiverse
WHAT THE TESTBED BRANCH IS: This is where I upload experimental versions of the Open WarHex system that I'm either testing, considering, or putting up for feedback. THESE FILES MAY CHANGE AT ANY TIME AND THE OLD VERSIONS ARE PROBABLY GONE FOR GOOD WHEN THEY DO. This place is more like a workbench than a specific thing. Currently: This is the core Open WarHex parts set, tweaked with a new shape for the central hex area and the modular ring; we're trying this as an experiment to see if people like the visual design of the less aggressive angles around the central hex. It also has adjusted widths for the gutters to (hopefully) help stack more securely. In addition, these changes are designed to give us more room to sculpt on the geometry for expansion parts such as roads, rubble, and other detailed terrain. Please give it a try and upload feedback; if these changes are a keeper (or even mostly work), we'll either do further testing, roll them into the main OWH branch, or possibly all of the above! UPDATE, 4-8-2016 After some test prints with the new central hex contours and module rings, I'm just not satisfied with the fit of the rings and the shallower height of the hexes; they don't stack as securely and the rings slide off very easily. I'm going to declare this a failed experiment, at least for my purposes, but I'll leave the Testbed branch up here until something else needs to go in this spot. Print Settings Printer: Rostock Max Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Doesn't Matter Resolution: 0.2mm Infill: Optional, I use around 5-10% Notes: Can be printed face-up or face down. If your printer struggles with the internal bridging under the central area, try printing face down. You will need to create detachable supports beneath the edge gutter area around the central hex. File is in decimal inches. If slicing in mm, multiply by 25.4 Custom Section PLEASE GIVE US YOUR FEEDBACK! Let us know your thoughts on this design - what you like about it, what you don't like about it, why you even looked at it in the first place, how your prints went, how it worked in use, problems, or suggestions. Also, please share pictures of your prints so we can make design tweaks if needed! The more user feedback we have, the better we can refine the design or adapt it for more variants (such as larger or smaller sizes).
