Open Source Syringe Pump
thingiverse
The need for accurate fluid delivery methods is common in chemistry or biology laboratories. However, commercial options of such apparatus can reach thousands of pounds. Therefore, an open-source syringe pump was developed and tested offering comparable performance +-0.5% at a significant reduction in cost. It implements a stepper motor controlled by an Arduino. The torque is multiplied using a gear system and the linear actuation system is driven by a lead screw. A GUI and an LCD touchscreen were also implemented in order provide improved user friendliness. Constructing the pump requires minimal tools, equipment or experience, as most parts were 3d printed and a custom PCB was designed. The pump is also compatible with most commercially available syringes, ranging from 7 to 40 mm in outside diameter.
