Open-Source Lab Book
pinshape
This is a customizable model of the Open Source Lab book, offering FREE access to content from Open-Source Lab: How to Build Your Own Hardware and Reduce Research Costs. The guide details the development of the free and open-source hardware revolution, providing step-by-step instructions on building your own laboratory hardware using your 3-D printer. In the first two chapters, available for free now (all chapters will be made freely available to the Maker community under my contract), I define basic terms of open-source software and discuss the rise of the open-source hardware revolution's impact on science. I then explore five pragmatic advantages of joining the open-source scientific community for your research in general, and most importantly, your equipment and instrumentation. Collections of OSH designs discussed in the book are available here and here. To adjust the size of the book model, use OpenSCAD or the Customizer App here on Thingiverse. Save the STL file and print. I recommend using a low fill percentage to save filament and time. Most 3D printers currently only offer one color, but when patents expire soon, we will be able to map pictures onto our prints, such as the attached cover image of the book.
With this file you will be able to print Open-Source Lab Book with your 3D printer. Click on the button and save the file on your computer to work, edit or customize your design. You can also find more 3D designs for printers on Open-Source Lab Book.
