The redesigned card reader is inspired by Blackboard's handheld reader, with the aim of maintaining consistency and similarity with other winning entries in previous challenges. This design incorporates elements from David Franklin's handheld reader while adding unique features. If placed next to the original product, one can easily identify them as part of the same brand or company. The card reader's antenna is designed as a separate board, allowing for easy modification if needed. All files are ready for molding and require minimal adjustments. The design considers durability, vandal resistance, and environmental factors. The main wall thickness is 0.07" on the bottom half and 0.065" on the cover, making it sturdy yet cost-effective. A custom aluminum backing plate serves as a foundation, secured with tamper-proof screws to prevent vandalism. The conservative design caters to its intended environment, featuring simple lines and industrial aesthetics. The card reader includes a magstripe reader in addition to the touch reader. Two plastic halves make up the design, which can be manufactured using a two-part pull mold. Cost-effective options are used for parts like keyboard modules and lenses. Overall dimensions are 5.3"L x 3.2"W x 0.85"h. Backplates are available for interior and exterior installations. An alternate design with different dimensions and tamperproof functionality will be added soon. Both .step and .iges files have been uploaded, with native files available upon request. However, the designs may need adjustments for FDM printing as they were not specifically created for this purpose.
