Open Mosquito Trap

Open Mosquito Trap is an Open Hardware project developed by several members of the French MakerSpace Network. This project aims to create a low-cost, eco-friendly mosquito trap that can be easily made locally. The goal is to provide a solution for areas where mosquitoes are a major vector for disease transmission. Unfortunately, there isn't a cost-effective option available in the market right now, which is why this project was created. The design of Open Mosquito Trap uses SketchUp Make 2015 software. The design files, including SketchUp and STL files, are available for download. Prototype : Open Mosquito Trap's base is made using a Zortrax M200 3D printer with an accurate layer thickness of 0.09mm. This part needs to be impermeable, so it has been printed with full infill. A compost made from rotten fruit, water, and leaves is placed inside this compartment. The middle section of the trap is also printed using a Zortrax M200 3D printer with an accurate layer thickness of 0.14mm. A round mosquito net is glued onto this part using universal glue. The top section of Open Mosquito Trap is printed using the same Zortrax M200 3D printer as before, but with a slightly thicker layer thickness of 0.14mm. Assembly : The three parts of Open Mosquito Trap are assembled together by embedding them into each other due to minimal tolerances between parts. How to use : 1 ) Fill the bottom part with rotten fruit, water, and leaves. It takes about 15 hours for CO2 emission to begin. 2) Assemble all the parts together. 3) Place Open Mosquito Trap near areas where you spend time (sleeping, eating). 4) Since mosquitoes will die quickly without food, they'll likely be dead by morning. Dispose of them in the compost. For more information about this project, visit http://movilab.org/index.php?title=OMT_Compostiques.
