Open Face Weighted Companion Cube Mold
thingiverse
I designed this mold in MeshMixer and plan to print with PLA, then pour molten Pewter into the mold. I simply imported the STL into MeshMixer, created a "Make Solid Offset" and then made a plane cut to open up the face.\nI will post pictures after printing and after casting.\nAfter finally getting my hands on pewter, I cast it (despite many interruptions.... be cautious of fillers inside the pewter as you melt it down).\nOnce the metal had been poured, I waited a bit before pulling the halves apart. The metal was nicely hardened and everything looks great so far. I discovered that there is a chemical that makes PLA rubbery, so I plan to soak the cube next and remove the rest of the little bits.\nI will post more pictures after it has cooled down and gets cleaned up\nPrint Settings\nPrinter Brand: RepRap\nPrinter: P3Steel\nRafts: Doesn't Matter\nSupports: Yes\nResolution: .1mm\nInfill: 100%\nNotes: If you use supports, make sure they only reach the bottom of the mold, any higher and there will be supports inside your cast.\nThe size was scaled up a bit to create a 60mm x 60mm cast. Printed solid, this mold weighs about 6.4oz
