Open/Closed Sign

Inspired by Ikeda Yosuke's open/close sign design, which relies on gravity and relatively frictionless joints, I decided to create one using planetary gears to drive the movement of letters. An animation of the transition can be seen at: https://youtu.be/TmrUlpgojlYThe model has now been updated to include the "d" in closed, although the video is of an older version. The gears are designed to snap fit onto their respective axles, and tolerances for rotational and press fit parts have been confirmed to work well with a properly calibrated printer.Updated 24/3/17:With the addition of the "d" in "closed," the design has been further refined. To achieve proper alignment, glue the joiner.stl piece to your gear_right in the correct position, then attach it to your letter d.Type has also been refined, particularly on the letters e, d, c, and l.Updated 11/2/17:Registration points have been added for letters to attach to gears.A split base plate has been introduced for smaller build platforms, requiring a minimum build size of 160 x 160 mm.The font has been refined to remove sharp edges, and the E and S/N have been chamfered on the bottom edge to avoid catching.Planet gears and gear_left have been heightened by 1mm to prevent contact with the axle.Gear_left has modified gears to only allow rotation in the direction that prevents letters from touching each other, an idea contributed by frankvdh.
