Open Assistive Technology - Key Turner
thingiverse
This is my own creation, an open assistive technology device designed specifically for people with missing digits and/or reduced digital dexterity or grip strength. The device allows users to easily insert and turn keys in locks. For individuals with arthritis, this device can be operated with minimal grip strength. People with missing digits and/or reduced digital dexterity can use the device with a minimum of one finger and up to three fingers at most, though using their entire hand is also an option. The device fits comfortably in a pocket and its vibrant fluorescent color makes it easily identifiable even in low light settings. In addition to 3D printing, I used one 4mm bolt, two 4mm nuts, and one 4mm washer to secure a wide variety of keys within the recessed area of the device. A short slot behind the handle allows for keys with different handle sizes and locations. With a small modification, a key loop can be added, enabling attachment to a traditional lanyard or keychain. I personally tested this device on October 26, 2016, and it functions remarkably well, if I may say so myself.
