Open Assistive Technology - Bag Holder

Open Assistive Technology - Bag Holder

thingiverse

This is my design for a 3D printable assistive technology device that empowers individuals with missing digits, reduced digital dexterity, flexibility, or grip strength to effortlessly carry nearly any type of handheld bag, such as grocery bags, gym bags, or briefcases. UPDATE (10 Feb 2017) - I have finally uploaded the improved model, which allows users to collapse the bag holder upon itself for compact storage and increased utility. Special Note: To ensure durability, it is crucial that the models are printed with planes of printed layers parallel to the normal direction of loading, i.e., downward. Printing the models with planes of printed layers orthogonal to the normal direction of loading may cause the printed parts to be ripped apart between the layers. To use: Unfold the collapsed bag holder. Insert the narrow width of your wrist into the top handle labeled "PART 1". Turn your wrist to secure the bag holder on your wrist, preventing it from slipping off. Position the handles of the bags you want to carry in the middle of the lower jaw labeled "PART 3". Positioning the handles of your bags in the middle of the lower jaw will help to evenly distribute the weight of the bags for a more comfortable experience. Future modifications: Apply a fillet to the underside of the top handle. This will make the handle more comfortable when in contact with a person's wrist. Reduce the dimensions of the entire system to make it more compact while still being able to carry a moderate to heavy load.
