Opel Omega A
thingiverse
The Opel Omega was a car produced by the German automaker Opel from 1986 to 2003. It replaced the Opel Rekord and was chosen as European Car of the Year in 1987. Like the Rekord, the Omega was manufactured at Rüsselsheim in Germany. There were two generations of this model, with the second (Omega B) debuting in 1993. The Omega A was available in sedan and wagon (Caravan) forms as a competitor to the Ford Scorpio and Rover 800. In the UK, Benelux, Switzerland, Germany, and Italy, the Omega was widely used as a police car and had already been commonly used as a security vehicle for transporting politicians. The car also underwent conversion into limousines and hearses. Production of the Omega ceased in 2003, replaced by the Opel Signum. The Omega A went into production in September 1986 to replace the Opel Rekord, which had been in production since 1978. Sales began in November. The bodywork was designed as an evolution of Opel's design, aimed at revolutionary aerodynamics due to high fuel prices and general trend towards fuel economy. The result was remarkable: a drag coefficient of 0.28 (0.32 for the Caravan). Total program development cost: 2 billion Deutsche Mark. Compared to the Rekord, the Omega received several technological advances from its generation, which were partly new to Opel, except for its class. This includes electronic engine management, ABS, onboard computer (displaying various information such as current fuel consumption or average speed), climate-controlled glovebox, and even LCD dashboard (available in a 1987 version but disappeared in 1991). More importantly, the Omega benefits from an auto-diagnostic system (a standard feature today), whose data could be read properly by equipped specialists. The four levels of trim are basic LS, GL, GLS, and CD (from least to most expensive). The base LS was clearly intended for fleet markets with the sedan. It is not available to individual customers in some markets. The Opel Omega Caravan LS was also available as a van with rear side windows covered by aluminum car body color instead of solid panels. For 1991, the Omega A benefited from a facelift, which included minor modifications to front and rear bumpers, as well as interior materials. Base engines up to 1.8 L were discontinued. LS and GLS trim levels were also dropped, while CD was joined by Club Diamant and CD.
