South of the Rotterdam port lies a lake that once served as the outlet for the Brielse Maas river. This was the primary shipping route to the Rotterdam port from the 13th to the 18th century. In 2015, the Dutch Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE) conducted an archaeological survey of the OVM 10W site. The area has been heavily impacted by sand extraction in the 1960s and is believed to have been a dumping ground for dredgers. Researchers discovered remains of at least two wrecks. These were from two large, Dutch seafaring vessels dating back to the late 17th century. This location faces threats from illegal excavations and looting. Data was processed by Thomas Van Damme (@Ubi3D).
