Oo Wagon Chassis (swappable designed for Swappable top)

This has been a project I've been working on for almost a year now. I made these for my Model railway layout and wanted wagons I could make swappable tops for. these have been consistently updated throughout that time and have had multiple tops made for them that will slowly be realized in packs of 3. this is just the chassis, based on the old Tri-and model wagon chassis.

if you make a top to these chassis, please try to keep to the standard magnetic connecters so others can also use them if you remix them.

Wagon Top packs:

Pack 1 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5065476

if you like this model and you are able to, a donation to the is appreciated, thank you.

*Update: Added indented versions of the chassis if you prefer that style. this one may be used more for future models for little details on the sides.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Prusa

Printer:

I3 MK3S

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Doesn't Matter

Resolution:

.15 or less

Infill:

less then 5%

Filament: Generic PLA Black or final desired color recommended

Notes:

print only on the flattest surfaces of the model.
buffers NEED SUPPORT, everything else is optional.
the decorative couplings were printed with a .25mm nozzle, not certain if a standard .4mm nozzle will give the same quality results.

Post-Printing

assembly

after removing all the support material from your printed model, you should have the following parts for a fully assembled truck.

1x Chassis (Nem or normal)

4x Buffers (of your choice)

2x Break parts (either normal or with footplate)

2x Hook Coupling (decorative for use with chain/screw links)

2x Loop Coupling (decorative, optional for the hook, goes around the hook for a cleaner look with chain)

I recommend starting with the breaks, dab glue to one side of the parts and inserting it to the sides, should tab into a hole in the chassis, make sure the decretive part is facing outward. if you used the one with the footplate, put a dap of glue at the ends with the supports to secure them in place.

next, for the decorative couplings before inserting into either end where there are two vertical holes, take a drill of similar size to 1mm and clean them out. then put a link of chain(s) in the fork than with a small dab of glue, insert it into the holes to your liking, but be quick!

After that, Buffers. insert the rod (or paper clip) into the hole at the end with some glue if you like, you may need to clear that out as well. then clip the rod about 2-3mm from the buffer and insert that into the holes of the buffer beam next to the decorative couplings.

for the magnet that goes in the middle use an 8mm diameter flat magnet, and push it in via the bottom of the chassis, then glue it in.

The wheel diameter I used is 12.8mm witch is very similar to the ones on Bachmann trucks for the Thomas range, so you may be able to get those on their parts site.

once all to gather put a small weight (about 7Gms) underneath the wagon to help with it down

and that is for the model! if you do want to paint it, I recommend covering the holes for the wheels and going from there. try printing the closest color you desire. I recommend using my provided couplings but if you want to use your own please do. if you have any questions please ask.

Category: Hobby
