Onkyo Amplifier Mechanical IR Remote
thingiverse
Human: A mechanical solution for remote volume control on my older Onkyo Integra amplifier. The wheel rests atop the volume control knob of the amp. A stepper turns this wheel, changing the volume on the receiver. This stepper is controlled by an Arduino Nano with an attached IR receiver, allowing any IR remote to be used for control. **BOM:** 1x TSOP4838 38 KHz IR Receiver Module 1x 28YBJ-48 Stepper motor 1x ULN2003 Stepper driver 1x Arduino Nano 1x Sponge wheel of suitable size 1x M3x30 screw as shaft 1x 3M Dual Lock tape **Assembly:** Connect the IR receiver to Pin 2 of the Arduino and flash the ir_test.ino file. Place your remote in front of the receiver, then press the buttons you want to use for control. Record the code output in the serial console for both buttons. Insert the noted-down code values into the top defines of the amp_remote_nec.ino and flash it to the Arduino. Connect the electronics to the specified pins as defined in the code. Test that the stepper turns as desired when the remote button is pressed. Print the case and coupling, securing the electronics within (I used wire instead of M1.4 screws for the Arduino). Attach the wheel to the stepper using the coupling and the M3 screw as a shaft. Depending on your wheel size and distance to the volume knob, you can now directly attach the device to the top of the amplifier. I employed 3M Dual Lock tape, allowing for disassembly and repositioning after the fact. For me, I could not find a suitable wheel to reach the knob, so I angled it to get extra distance. You can find two different size angle brackets attached for your needs. Print these twice and attach them to each side of the bottom of the box, angling forward. **Notes:** This is, of course, a silly device because I could have easily solved this electronically by replacing the potentiometer in the amp. But this solution looks more entertaining.
