This project is an entry for the New Museum Challenge, demonstrating the possibility of printing a personalized shoe using a 3D printer. The prototype is a baby's shoe which can be scaled up as the child grows. With a standard flatbed scanner, feet can be scanned and imported into CAD software to create custom-fit shoe designs. Kids could even design their own shoes with colorful embellishments. This 3D printed shoe offers more flexibility compared to conventional ones. The shoe assembly includes placing the shoe bottom on a non-stick surface, molding Sugru into it, attaching the shoe insert, installing straps, and finally adding Velcro to secure them. An optional insole can be added for extra comfort. The project's name suggestion is "Shoegru".
