One Roll Fate / Fudge Die

One Roll Fate / Fudge Die

Make your fate games more thrilling by creating a single die that represents the frequency of 4 rolling Fudge dice. This innovative tool is designed to enhance roleplaying systems like Fate, which offers an impressive array of possibilities. The die showcases a distribution from "++++" down to "----", totaling 81 distinct outcomes. Although it has 80 sides, you're slightly less likely (1.2% less precisely) to achieve a "Blank" result. The remainder of the distribution remains identical, making this die a more convenient option than rolling four Fate dice. One major advantage of using this die is that it eliminates frustrating results like "++--", which can be far more exasperating than a "Blank". I've successfully employed this die in numerous games and find it to be an excellent addition. However, due to the large number of sides, this die requires a smooth surface for optimal rolling. If thrown too forcefully, it may roll a considerable distance. In terms of size, I found that a 5cm diameter was somewhat legible, but 6cm proved to be a better choice. When printed at 6cm diameter, the grooves are substantial enough to be filled with a fine tip 0.3mm permanent marker, making the dice result clearer and easier to read. I've successfully printed several of these dies using white PLA with a layer height of 0.05mm, Walls of 0.8mm, and 25% infill at 200 degrees on a 60-degree bed. The print process took approximately 10 hours and consumed about 30g of filament. To facilitate printing, I've included three files: one for the full die and two for the top and bottom halves. Printing the full die without any flat sides works well, but be aware that the underside requires support and may appear slightly messy upon completion. This doesn't seem to affect the rolling performance, however. If you print the two halves separately, be cautious of stringing between them, as it can create messy sides similar to the underside of the full die. The two halves feature aligned holes for locking pins and can be easily glued together.
