Reusing empty beer cans as containers can be tricky because the ones that are already open start to lose their stiffness, and develop sharp edges. The ring attachment resolves this issue. The added benefit is that you might require larger one-liter beer cans for more container creation;). Reference - the external diameter of my chosen can is 86.5 mm.
