The One Ring is central to J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit". Initially, it was portrayed as a ring of invisibility but in the sequel, it was depicted with darker powers. Crafted by Sauron, the Dark Lord, to rule Middle-earth, the Ring was forged in Mount Doom's fires. Its creation strengthened and weakened Sauron's power simultaneously; while he could control other rings due to its existence, losing it diminished his power significantly. The only way to destroy the ring was by hurling it into the same volcanic pit where it was forged. A simple test revealed its identity: when placed in fire, it displayed a Tengwar inscription in Black Speech of Mordor. The Ring corrupted its bearer and affected them differently - making Tom Bombadil unaffected, while dimming Frodo's sight yet sharpening his other senses. Despite being able to adapt to various finger sizes, the Ring was chained around Frodo's neck to avoid it slipping off. Bilbo Baggins inherited it from his uncle, and it passed through several hands including Sauron, Isildur, Gollum/Sméagol, Gandalf, and Samwise Gamgee before being finally destroyed by Frodo in the Crack of Doom.
