I tried out numerous designs featuring bearings that tend to unwind their spools on their own, as well as three and four-piece models requiring assembly with screws or snap-together parts. However, none of them truly satisfied me because one design worked perfectly with certain brands of spools but failed with others. I decided to create a simple one-piece spool holder that can be printed in a single piece. Spool holders don't need bearings; instead, the spool glides smoothly over the printed plastic. Moreover, you want some static friction to prevent the spool from unwinding and getting tangled. I designed this spool holder to fit all of my filament spools, ranging from small spindles to large ones, as well as wide and narrow formats, and it should accommodate about 98% of spools available. One-handed loading allows you to use your other hand to hold onto the loose end of the filament. To view my Spool Keeper accessory for this holder, visit http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2036770. The spool dimensions are identical to those of my Wanaho Duplicator 6 Spool Holder at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2002418. Updates include V3, which reduces the accessory mounting holes for better grip with 3mm screws.
