The aluminum bed supplied with the Ormerod is not stiff enough and should be swapped for one made of metal. The issue lies in the intricate cut-outs needed (typically laser-cut) to fit this on the bed support, which prevents ordinary individuals from making it. Consequently, I have designed a single-piece bed support with a flat top that enables you to use any bed you prefer with only straightforward drilling, which can be done more easily at home. You can even utilize this support with the original aluminum bed if desired by drilling three mounting holes as shown in the photos and it provides better support for the flimsy aluminum bed. I have done this because my aluminum bed was too heavy, so I am drilling chunks out of it to reduce its weight. By making the bed a single piece, I have decreased manufacturing time, enhanced rigidity, eliminated beam/back alignment problems and eliminated connecting screws.
