A video tutorial is now available here: http://youtu.be/raBfRj1SW2o This inexpensive end stop design has been functioning well since January and requires minimal materials - a paperclip, copper wire, electrical tape, and a piece of an old network cable. The endstop is a NO (normally open) switch, so adjust your firmware accordingly. While it may lack the fail-safe feature of NC (normally closed) switches, its simple mechanical action and low risk of failure make up for it. To create this end stop, follow these steps: 1) Obtain a paperclip and a piece of an old network cable, 2) Shape the paper clip into two "L" shapes, crimp, solder or tightly wrap the short ends with the network cable, 3) Poke the long ends through electrical tape and secure it to the end stop holder, ensuring wires don't touch, 4) Attach a short piece of copper wire to an extruder body, print bottom plate, or X end so it completes the circuit when hitting the paper clips, and 5) Upgrade to the Micro-Adjustable Bare Wire Z End Stop if desired. Clean wires with sandpaper as needed. For legal reasons, a "One-Penny" bit is mentioned for getting a paper clip but it's optional.
