One Meter Long Omega Class Destroyer
thingiverse
Here is my biggest model, the gargantuan, awe-inspiring, 1 meter long Omega Class Destroyer from Babylon 5. That's approximately 40 inches for those who prefer metric measurements. This massive ship weighs around 3.4 kilograms and consists of a whopping 356 parts. Printing it on my machines took a staggering total of 280 hours. The assembly process is relatively straightforward, with most parts screwing together easily, while smaller details are secured using glue. To optimize the printing process for each part, I broke down the ship into sections, resulting in almost no supports being required. The Omega Class Destroyer was designed to be printed entirely on an FDM printer; however, certain components like the guns and some detail panels would greatly benefit from being printed on a DLP resin printer. In the coming days, I will upload additional option parts specifically created for DLP resin printers, such as the guns and other small details that could utilize the enhanced resolution. No single part exceeds 200mm in size, ensuring compatibility with even the largest print beds. The ship boasts an abundance of internal space for wiring LEDs, although it is not a particularly well-lit vessel. Installing lights is relatively easy, and there's ample room to fit a motor, servo, or stepper to enable the rotating section to spin. Please consult the linked Readme document below, as it provides essential assembly notes, errata, and a comprehensive list of required extras (such as screws, styrene/brass rod, etc.). The document also includes a detailed breakdown of parts, their quantities, weights, and print times. This is not a model kit for the faint of heart; it's a seriously large project that demands dedication and time. It's intended for those who genuinely enjoy constructing massive space ship models and are willing to put in the necessary effort. Any comments, suggestions, or feedback are always welcome. Thanks, Rob. EDIT 8/9/19: Thingiverse appears to be experiencing a technical issue, preventing the download of the entire ship. However, I've uploaded zipped sections here: http://members.iinet.net.au/~canison/Omega/Head.zip http://members.iinet.net.au/~canison/Omega/Rotate.zip http://members.iinet.net.au/~canison/Omega/Aft.zip http://members.iinet.net.au/~canison/Omega/Engine.zip EDIT 23/10/19: Someone has pointed out a missing part. I've just uploaded the lower right inside blast shield piece as part H24bx1.stl.
