I built another one for myself because I wanted complete control over its repair without needing any drill, screw, glue, or other tools. I simply wanted to be able to adapt it to an existing fixed thing easily. Moreover, I am extremely cautious about germs. So when I use a paper towel instead of a regular towel, it's usually because I'm about to wipe my hand off something suspicious and want to dispose of the towel right away. In that case, it's essential not to touch any other towel on the roll. Unfortunately, most designs don't accommodate this need (you have to block the roll with one hand while tearing a towel with the other). I designed this for myself years ago without feeling compelled to publish it, since there are many beautiful designs out there already. However, I've realized that these days, I'm not the only germ-conscious person around. This design allows me to grab a towel, unroll it downwards, and then tear it upwards. To replace the roll, all you need to do is unscrew (clockwise!), swap out the new roll, and screw back into place.
