The Omicron-type sample holder is a fundamental component for scientific applications, characterized by its uniform shape and size: typically a flat metal plate measuring 21x18x1 mm. This versatile tool can be seamlessly integrated into various equipment setups, such as sputtering, e-beam evaporation, molecular beam epitaxy, or electron microscopes, often under vacuum conditions. A specialized slot is designed to securely hold these sample holders in place, ensuring the sample surface remains intact and fixed in space for storage and transportation. The maximum sample height accommodated by this slot is 7 mm, with up to six slots arranged within a larger box. Two distinct slot models exist, differing in their ease of use: one model requires a dummy sample holder to be inserted and tilted/pushed sideways before samples can be securely fixed inside. Printed in PETG, the latter model proved effective after a minute. A looser version has yet to be tested and may be modified at a later stage. Important Considerations: 1. Be aware that certain plastics may not be suitable for contact with UHV components due to potential residuals of plastics/organics on the corners of the sample holder, which can spoil the sample or contaminate UHV components when heated. 2. This model has not been tested under vacuum conditions; storing it in an excicator may lead to air trapped in the parts slowly leaking and compromising vacuum conditions. Additionally, parts printed with less than 100% infill may crack and leak air. 3. Some plastics contain organic components that can strongly degas under vacuum or even in atmospheric conditions.
