Omega 1.8e Wing section extender: Airfoil SD 7035

thingiverse

This is a centre section wing extender designed specifically for the Omega / Highlight 1.8e glider. Unfortunately, this glider is no longer available on the market, but enthusiasts can still use this extension to enhance its performance. The original 1.8 metre wing span was adequate, but adding an extra 40cm of length can significantly improve its floating capabilities. The airfoil used in this design is SD 7035, which matches the existing wing perfectly except for a minor discrepancy of 1mm at the trailing edge - a negligible issue that doesn't affect overall performance. The chord width measures 187mm and provides optimal stability during flight. To accommodate a wider range of printing options, the panel is designed to be 10cm wide, allowing users to scale the Z axis as needed. Printing multiple panels and joining them together can result in a more robust structure. The spar hole has a diameter of 8mm for easy installation of carbon tubes with an inside diameter of 6mm - matching the specifications of the original wing spar. For successful printing, it's essential to use around 10% infill and adjust top and bottom layers as necessary to achieve optimal results. An additional STL file is included, which features support for the trailing edge of the wing, a common issue during printing that can cause the wing to lift off the bed. However, please note that this STL has not been tested yet. An updated version of the centre section has been added, featuring 4mm bolt holes and a servo cable exit hole, measuring 60mm in length with two outer sections of 120mm each, making it a total extension of 300mm. This allows users to add multiple outer sections as needed. Additionally, a 3mm alignment hole is included near the trailing edge for precise installation purposes.
