Ombra della sera

L'Ombra della sera or "Evening shadow" is an Etruscan votive statuette (III century BC), coming from the ancient Velathri, or the current Volterra, and kept there in the Guarnacci museum. It represents a naked male figure, with a height of 57.5 cm, but what stands out most is the elongated shape of the body, except the head, which maintains the exact proportions, and this modern style is stunning for an Etruscan sculpture . In this figure, a beauty that almost reaches the supernatural is emphasized, thanks to the natural features of the face. The bronze workers of Volterra were already known in ancient times for their great manufacturing and technological skills, which allowed them to melt the copper ores of the Metalliferous Hills with tin, obtaining bronze. Of course, mine is a 36cm high bronze copy (left side of the photo) that I scanned and printed with sufficient results.
