Olympus Pen D series flash bracket grip
thingiverse
For the Olympus Pen D series cameras Olympus only made a matched flash unit which takes flashbulbs. To use an electronic xenon flash one either had to use a generic bracket, epoxy a cold shoe on to the plate, or use the small Pen flash bracket made for the EE series, which is both too tall to mount without wobble as well as going right over the D series' metering button, which is an extra pain if you have one where the meter still works. This bracket weighs only 40g printed with a 10% gyroid infill, and mounts using a standard 1/4-20 that can be borrowed from most Arca-style quick release plates. Any screw with a 15mm diameter or less head and about 2mm of unthreaded shaft between the head and the actual 1/4-20 should work, in my cases I'm using one from a Peak Design low-profile plate. The bracket is deep enough for these standard screws to sit in flush so the camera can be set down flat when not in use. Bottom is designed to allow access to the rewind button and door release knob, allowing the film to be changed without removing the bracket. After printing all that needs to be done is to epoxy the cold shoe into the grips recessed area. If the PC sync cable has difficulty going through the horizontal cable clip some sanding or filing of the gap is all it takes, do it slowly until the cable just pushes through but still with some resistance. I printed mine on Cura with auto-generated supports set to everywhere and tree style. Inner dimension of plate (to match outer dimension of bottom of Pen D2, should be indentical to D and D3) is 107.5mm at the longest and 32mm at the widest point. Other fixed lens Pens might fit but I can't guarantee it or a good fit if they do, be sure and measure yours first. Version notes: Dec 15 2021 - updated with better placed and sized cable clips. Inner diameter now properly 3.5mm to fit most intended sync cables without excess play. Cips print more reliably. Horizontal ones still benefit from post-printing sanding to enable easy in and out of cable. Dec 12 2021 - first working version. Horizontal cable clip is still prone to some deformation on the bottom depending on how supports are generated. Doesn't affect function, but, could still be improved for printing purposes.
