Olympus Interplanetary Starship
grabcad
A combination of Hermes from Martian and SpaceX's Starship. This post contains Three vehicles, Legacy (The launch vehicle), Olympus (the A/Descent vehicle), and Echelon (interplanetary transfer stage). This is my take on a future Mars mission: What if we can combine the awesome idea of Starship and give it an extension for artificial gravity and crew hab? What if we can attach a more efficient engine optimized for space travel? The idea of a Thermal nuclear engine isn't something new. NASA founded the project NERVA in 1968, it has proven to have an efficiency 3 times greater than the Space shuttle engine. Such design could theoretically allow 100% reusability for a mars roundtrip. (1)Take off with Legacy and Olympus, Land Legacy like falcon-9 (2)Rendovouze Olympus with Echelon which would be built in space (3)transit to Mars. (4)Land Olympus and use it as an operation base. (5)Ascend back to orbit and dock with Echelon. (6)Transit back to earth. (7)Starship-style landing with Olympus. (8)Refuel & Resupply Echelon for future missions.Comment below if you think this idea might work; drop comments/criticisms, I would love to have an open conversation with any space geeks out there. This is a work in progressEverything is modeled and rendered in Solidworks. Exhaust effects were added in Adobe Photoshop.
